Stands and Platters

Start with choosing your cake stands and dessert platters! When finding stands and platters, there are a few details to consider:

Texture + Color

Keep the overall vibe of your wedding in mind when choosing the texture of your platters. Wood, marble, metal, glass, porcelain, slate. Each material has a different vibe. Wood can bring a rustic feel, while marble and metal are very modern. Glass and porcelain can bring elegance to the table, while slate can exude an edgy moodiness. With your overall wedding vibe in mind, you can choose to keep it simple with one texture (i.e. all white porcelain stands and platters) or mix mediums (i.e. glass stands and slate platters).

Height + Shape

Elevate your desserts with a combination of platters AND cake stands of differing heights, or use tiered cupcake stands and shelving to pile desserts high!

If you choose to go with all matching texture, consider using a variety of shapes for your platters and stands. If you want to mix different textured materials, limit it to two, like a nice selection of wood and marble platters. Keep the shapes more simple with all circular marble and all rectangular wood too keep it looking sharp. If you prefer to keep it to one shape for your platters, consider using multiple heights to add dimension and really show off those sweets!

Table Decorations

Once you’ve chosen cake stands and platters to display your wedding desserts, consider adding a little decor to tie the dessert table into the rest of your table-scapes! These are some of my favorite table top décor from past weddings:

A Table Runner + Fresh Flowers or Greenery

Tie your wedding colors into the decor by using a table runner on the dessert table! Satin, chiffon, or gauze runners are a beautiful addition to mimic colors that you have occurring in your dinner table settings, like colorful napkins or chargers, and floral arrangements at the dinner tables.

Signage

Tempt your guests with a sign detailing the delicious flavors  that your chose for your dessert table (and any allergens so your friends and family with food allergies know which sweets they can taste)!

Natural Elements

Using flowers and greenery that match your bouquet, planting little bud vases around the dessert table or even simply filling in open areas between dessert platters with rose petals will help your dessert table feel more finished and less like an after thought!

Personal Décor

Sentimental items, like a cute picture frame with collection of photos of you or license plates from your home states can bring a personal touch to the table.

When you’re spending a pretty penny on your wedding dessert table, the actual display table should be as pretty as your carefully crafted dinner tables! It’s the perfect opportunity to bring a touch of you, as a newlywedded couple, while your guests serve themselves a plate of beautiful desserts. I hope this blog helps you get creative with your wedding dessert table!
